From a Calling to a Community: The Journey of Sassy Preacher Lady

Jun 19, 2026

There are moments in life when something begins almost by accident—but later you realize God was planting seeds all along. That is exactly how Sassy Preacher Lady began for me.

What started as a simple idea of offering customized wedding and funeral services slowly became a voice, a ministry, a community, and honestly, a reflection of who I have always been: faithful, passionate, honest, a little bold, and unwilling to pretend that following Jesus means we have to check our personalities at the church door.

For years in ministry, I often felt the tension between who people expected a pastor to be and who God actually created me to be. I believe we were all created in the image of God and that we are more similar than we are different. I care about justice. I believe the Gospel should challenge us and comfort us. I believe love and kindness can change the world. But I also believe faith and spirituality should be authentic, approachable, and real. Somewhere along the way, I realized there were many people tired of polished religion and hungry for honest conversations about God, spirituality, life, struggle, grace, and hope.

That realization became the spark for Sassy Preacher Lady.

The name itself usually makes people smile, and honestly, that was part of the point. “Sassy” does not mean disrespectful. It means spirited. Courageous. Unafraid to speak truth with a little personality. It means refusing to water down the deep meaning of our spiritual selves while also refusing to take ourselves too seriously. Faith can be holy and joyful at the same time.

In the beginning, Sassy Preacher Lady was small. A few posts. A few reflections. I became known as the one who could capture and celebrate important moments in people’s lives in personal and meaningful ways. I might have even thrown in a little holy sarcasm now and then.

What surprised me was how quickly people connected with it.

People wanted authenticity. They wanted a pastor who could speak honestly about real life. They wanted encouragement without clichés. They wanted a spiritual life that could survive difficult questions and difficult times. They wanted to know they were not alone. They wanted to be seen as spiritual beings themselves without having to conform to a particular doctrine or way of being. And they wanted someone to walk the journey with them—without judgment, without pretense, and with the ability to truly listen.

As the ministry grew, so did my understanding of what God was doing through it. God nudged me to add spiritual direction as a way for people to explore the deeper questions in their lives. I added SoulCollage® workshops and developed retreats to offer even more opportunities for reflection, healing, and discovery.

Today, Sassy Preacher Lady has become more than a catchy name. It has become a platform for conversations about purpose, values, beliefs, alignment, prayer, grace, and hope in a chaotic world. It has opened doors for sharing, listening, creativity, and connecting with people far beyond my local congregation.

It has also helped me embrace my own voice more fully.

There is freedom in realizing you do not have to imitate someone else’s ministry style to be effective. God uses our personalities, experiences, humor, wounds, gifts, and stories. I have learned that people are not looking for perfection. They are looking for honesty, compassion, courage, and authenticity.

And perhaps most importantly, Sassy Preacher Lady has reminded me that ministry happens far beyond church walls. It happens online. In conversations. In moments of encouragement. In difficult discussions. In reminding people that love and presence still reach into broken places.

Where am I today?

Still journeying. Still learning. Still growing. Still asking hard questions. Still believing deeply in the transforming love of Christ.

But now I do so with greater clarity about who I am and what God has called me to do.

Sassy Preacher Lady continues to evolve, but the heart behind it remains the same: to speak truth with grace, challenge people to a deeper spiritual life, create space for authenticity, and remind people that Jesus meets us exactly where we are—but loves us too much to leave us there.

I am grateful for every person who has supported, encouraged, followed, shared, prayed, laughed, and journeyed alongside me. What began as a small spark has become something much larger than I ever imagined.

And I have a feeling God is not finished yet.
